Our charity shops turn kind donations into care. They are an important high street destination for many in our community who choose to shop with us, be it to bag a bargain, prevent items going to landfill or simply to support St Cuthbert’s.

The success of our shops wouldn’t be possible without the army of volunteers who give their time to help with their day to day running. And we are always happy to welcome an extra pairs of hands!

Volunteers join us for a variety of reasons such as giving back to the community and supporting the area where they live or to develop skills to help gain paid employment. Whatever the reason we are always delighted to welcome new volunteers to the team and take care to explain to new recruits just how important their contribution is. Each person who volunteers for the Hospice helps us to make every day count for the individuals and families we care for. No matter what area of the Hospice they volunteer in, they help us to create the precious moments that are treasured forever or to provide comfort for someone who is bereaved.

We have many roles available at our shops. From driving the van to collect donations and deliver stock, to spending a few hours at the till serving customers or being behind the scenes pricing up items for sale. Many people don’t realise the impact that just a few hours can have, it really makes such a huge difference to us. We have a number of volunteers who give their time as and when they can, where others support us regularly each week. We really can be as flexible with your time as needed. We welcome applications from prospective volunteers aged 16 years or over to help in our clinical areas and 13 years or over in our charity shops meaning younger people can gain valuable experience too.

Having had the opportunity to volunteer in one of the shops has enriched my life. My long association with St Cuthbert's has meant I have seen many advances, including the initial opening as a Day Care Centre, then the growth to become an In-Patient Unit. It seems there is always more caring that can be done, and the Hospice needs support in many ways more than ever. St Cuthbert's is very close to my heart.
