Hospice Staff

St Cuthbert’s Hospice opened in 1988, and provides specialist medical and nursing care for people with life limiting conditions from across Durham, Chester le Street and Derwentside.

The Hospice is based in the historic Park House in Merryoaks, close to the centre of Durham. Patients and relatives are welcome to enjoy the five acres of beautiful grounds, and the views across the Durham countryside.John Tones

Our team of highly qualified and trained staff and volunteers work together to provide individual, high quality care in a peaceful environment, and to provide care and support for relatives and carers.

St Cuthbert’s Hospice provides:

  • An In-Patient Unit offering 24 hour care
  • Day care
  • Community Support
  • Bereavement care and support to relatives

The services at St Cuthbert’s are provided free of charge, and it costs a total of £1.6 million per year to run the Hospice. St Cuthbert’s depends on public donations and fundraising events for over two thirds of its funding. The remainder is paid for by Primary Care Trust.
