St. Cuthbert's Hospice

Introduction

Welcome to the brand new website for St Cuthbert’s Hospice. In fact, this is our very first website, and I hope that you’ll enjoy using it as a way of finding out more about our work and how you can support our services for people with life-limiting conditions.

The Hospice opened in 1988 and provides day care and treatments for people with life-limiting illnesses, as well as giving support to their families. A ten bed In-Patient Unit opened in 2006 to provide specialist pallliative care to people living in Durham, Chester le Street and Derwentside.

It costs £1.6 million per year to provide this care at St Cuthbert’s, and after support from the Primary Care Trust, a further one million pounds has to be raised to run the services we offer. Much of this money comes from local events and fundraising activities such as our March coffee mornings, the Midnight Walk which is being held in June, and a whole host of other initiatives.

You will find details of all our events here on this site, and there is something for everyone. If you’d like to be involved then please give us a call. Without the support of local people, St Cuthbert’s would be unable to support those who need our help the most.

The work of the hospice is supported by a dedicated group of over three hundred volunteers, and we are always looking for more people. There are a variety of opportunities, from helping in one of our six charity shops, greeting guests on reception at the hospice, to helping to look after patients. If you have some spare time, then we’d love to hear from you so please contact the Volunteer Co-ordinator.

Thank you for visiting the website and for your interest in St Cuthbert’s,
