St. Cuthbert's Hospice

Fundraising

St Cuthbert’s Hospice has been offering care and support to people from across Durham for twenty years. All our services are provided free of charge to individuals, their families and carers.

The Hospice costs £1.6 million pounds per year to run, and depends on the generosity of local people for over two thirds of its funding. The remainder is paid for by the Primary Care Trust.

Ways you can help to support our work:

Take part in one of our Events

St Cuthbert’s Hospice organises a range of events throughout the year, helping to raise money for patient care. Taking part in one of our events can be great fun, as well as raising money for a good cause. There really is something for everyone, from our March Coffee Mornings, to a behind-the-scenes tour of Durham Cathedral, and our biggest event of the year, the Midnight Walk. For more information, please click here for our What’s On listing.

Or if you can’t find the event you’d like to attend – then why not organise your own fundraising initiative? You could encourage your friends and relatives to take part in a sponsored silence, walk or parachute jump, or what about a coffee morning or a curry night? Our Fundraisers would be only to happy to hear from you, and to provide support and guidance. Please call 0191 386 1170 for further information.

Become a Friend of St Cuthbert’s Hospice

The Friends of St Cuthbert’s Hospice make an annual donation, which is used directly to support patient care. The Friends receive a special newsletter, detailing all of the hospice news and events. St Cuthbert’s often holds evenings for the Friends, to preview our events and new developments at the Hospice. For more information, please contact the Fundraising Office.

Make A Donation

Any donation, large or small, makes a real difference to the care we can offer here at St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

When you do make a donation, don’t forget to sign up for Gift Aid:

Gift Aid is an easy way of topping up your contribution, and means that as a charity, St Cuthbert’s Hospice can claim back the basic rate of tax on your donation. All you need to do is sign the declaration, which is available from the Hospice, and the government will add an extra 28p for every £1 you donate, as long as you have paid tax on your income.

You can make a donation in a number of ways:

A one-off donation

You can make a one-off donation by cheque or in cash. Cheques should be sent to the Fundraising Office, or you may prefer to visit the hospice during office hours to make a cash donation. Click here for our address details, and a location map.

Donate On-line

You can now make a safe and secure on-line donation towards the work of the Hospice, via our JustGiving site. You can choose how much you give, and best of all making a donation this way takes only a few seconds. Please click here for the link to St Cuthbert’s Hospice Just Giving site.

Become a Regular Giver

Every donation is important to our work, but regular donations allow us to plan for the future and provide the very best hospice services for the people of Durham, Chester le Street and Derwentside. You can donate every month, quarter or year, directly from you bank account. Why not consider giving part of your annual bonus to help pay for Hospice care?

Once your Direct Debit is set up, you don’t need to remember to donate, but know that your money is supporting the work of the Hospice. If you would like further information on how to sign up, please contact the Fundraising Office on 0191 386 1170.

In Memory Donations

You can make a donation to St Cuthbert’s Hospice as a special way of remembering a loved one, even if they weren’t cared for at the Hospice. Your contribution will be used to support and care for those with a life limiting condition when they need support.

A funeral offers people the chance to remember a family member, friend or colleague, and pay tribute to the life of someone they knew and loved. Many people choose to support a charity close to their heart at this time, by asking for donations in lieu of flowers. All donations are acknowledged, with a personal thank you letter.
