St. Cuthbert’s Hospice: Making Every Day Count

Welcome to St. Cuthbert’s Hospice, where we have been helping the people of North Durham to make every day count since 1988. St. Cuthbert’s Hospice provides a range of care and support services to individuals, as well as to their relatives and carers, helping people to cope with life limiting illnesses.
We are your local charity and make no charge for our services, relying on fundraising and community support in order to continue to do our essential work.
Calling all dogs of Durham: Your local hospice needs you!
'Paws for a Cause', our annual sponsored dog walk, is back with a bark on Sunday 10th October at Houghall woodlands. A furry army of over 100 dogs took part last year, and this year, we want even more pets to be put through their paces!
YOUR dog can make a difference to people with life-limiting illnesses - all the pounds that your hounds raise will help us to care for people in North Durham. Download the form to register now.
Shop Anniversary
Happy tenth birthday to our Durham Charity Shop! The shop was opened in 2000 by Denise Robertson. In a decade, the shop has made £270,000 profit, with volunteer shopworkers clocking up more than 64,000 unpaid hours. Nine longstanding volunteers have supported the store throughout its ten year existence.
Angela Dinsdale, our Chief Executive, said, "The generosity of our donors, the loyalty of our customers and the dedication of the volunteers have brought our Durham shop to where it is today – at the heart of the community that we care for. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful achievement.”
In Memory Garden is Completed
The first engraved 'memory pebble' has been placed in our newly completed In Memory Garden. The tranquil memorial garden is located in the idyllic grounds of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, hidden from view by beech trees and featuring a small bridge, a flowing stream and a bench where visitors can reminisce.
Ken Allday from Newton Hall was the first to pay tribute to a loved one in the In Memory Garden, by placing an engraved pebble in the stream in honour of his beloved wife Joan, who died from cancer at St Cuthbert’s Hospice aged 74.
“The In Memory Garden means the world to me,” said Mr. Allday, who was married to Joan for 56 years. “Joan absolutely loved St Cuthbert’s and was at peace here, so the knowledge that her pebble will be here forever is a comfort.”
