Family Support Services

The Family Support Team provides counselling, chaplaincy and social work support to In Patient and Living Well Centre guests, their famillies and carers at each stage of their health journey.

We also provide an adult counselling and support service to the residents of Durham who have been affected by the diagnosis or death of someone with a life-limiting illness. This can be accessed via a referral from any health professional or you can contact the team direct here at the Hospice.

We work with Children and Young People who have experienced bereavement and loss issues and have a specially designed area in the Hospice where our experienced counsellors can help families through the difficult times. This service is open to referrals across the whole of County Durham. Find out more about  Children's Berevement Services and The Jigsaw Project.

We have “A Time to Reflect” service here at the Hospice three times a year to remember those who have died at the hospice. Families, carer(s) and friends are invited to meet together to celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

Our “Moving On” group is designed to assist participants in the transition from diagnosis and treatment of cancer to be able to focus upon life and the future rather than illness. It is a six week course consisting of a group (6 to 10 people) who are in a similar situation to each other.

The team can also offer training courses on a variety of issues around loss and bereavement. These can be tailored for the individual and their personal loss or professional groups for use in a work-place setting.
