Pay For a Day of Hospice Care

Tuesday 4th June 2024: " Aunty M spent the majority of those last months being cared for in St Cuthbert’s Hospice, by the amazing staff. They showed kindness, care and compassion to not only our Aunty M but it extended to the whole family and it allowed us to spend precious time together and take some comforting memories from one of the most difficult times in our lives."

Monday 3rd June 2024: "St Cuthbert’s was such a wonderful place and we are forever grateful for the care Tony received while he was there. It was a blessing to be able to visit any time, and that he was in such a peaceful setting where help was available day and night."

Thursday 30th May 2024: "A former nurse and midwife, Mum was always stoical and knowledgeable about all things medical but we knew that, having visited friends in the Hospice previously, she was secretly holding on for that herself, rather than die in hospital."

Sunday 26th May 2024: "As a family, we were extremely grateful for the support and kindness from all the team at St Cuthbert’s. The Hospice is truly remarkable and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”

Monday 20th May 2024: "Every year we enjoy coming together as a team to raise as much money as possible to help those with life-limiting illnesses within our community. We were touched to see how much money raised to date has helped so many to continue to receive the outstanding care that St Cuthbert's Hospice provides throughout County Durham."

Wednesday 15th May 2024: "Rachel was a strong independent young women who lived her own life full of friends and family. She is missed today the same as the day she left us, she is never far from our thoughts and we include her in everything we do."

Sunday 12th May 2024: "Elaine spent her last weeks in the Hospice, being looked after by the most fabulous staff. We couldn’t have asked for more from them, they not only looked after Elaine they looked after us too. "

Wednesday 7th February 2024: "Our beautiful Lucie was only 38 years old when she was admitted to St Cuthbert’s on the 23rd of October 2023. She died 3 days later on the 26th October. In that short time the care she received from the staff was second to none and we will always be grateful for that care."

Thursday 25th January 2024: "Edward, Peter, Graeme and Fiona will be forever grateful for the care Heather received at St Cuthbert's Hospice. Enabling her to spend the last weeks of her life back in her own home, in her own bedroom, overlooking the garden she enjoyed so much with her family around her and of course Baxter the dog."

1st January 2024: "I would like to thank everyone who is a part of this outstanding charity, extending to the shops, those volunteers that collect counter boxes to the nurses, doctors and gardeners and the chefs in the kitchen - thank you all!

Wednesday 20th December 2023: "St Cuthbert’s Hospice were a god send, what a bunch of heroes. They treated us like family and managed to get Amanda well enough so she could come home for the last 8 days of her life."

Tuesday 19th December 2023: "Despite Claire being taken from us so soon, her friends and family have used their grief in a positive way to raise funds for the Hospice, who supported her at the end of her illness."

Tuesday 28th November 2023: "Sue passed away peacefully at the Hospice on 09 July 2022. As a family, we wanted to thank everyone at the Hospice for making the time spent there so comfortable, for all of us. We couldn’t have asked for better – you are real Earth Angels."

Wednesday 18th October 2023: "Today, 18th October 2023, our amazing, fun-loving, colourful, beautiful daughter Dawn would have been 45 years old. It’s still hard to accept that she’s no longer with us. We all still feel her presence everywhere. Dawn passed away peacefully in St Cuthbert’s on Monday 28th February 2022."

Friday 6th October 2023: "Margaret looked forward to her regular visits to the Living Well Centre as she really enjoyed the activities."

Friday 29th September 2023: "Today would have been her 65th birthday. I would personally like to thank all the staff especially in the In - Patient unit who showed Judith such love and affection during her time there. We really couldn’t have asked for anything more for her last few weeks than to have the care afforded by such wonderful people as yourselves."

Thursday 28th September 2023: "The care Marie received at St Cuthbert's Hospice was nothing short of magnificent. The staff, those incredible human beings, touched our hearts with their unwavering support. Without this charity, people like us would struggle to find solace. To each and every one of them, we extend our heartfelt gratitude."

Friday 22nd September 2023: This amazing donation was raised at the 2022 Foundation’s Annual Dinner. Today is the Foundation’s 2023 Dinner – we hope all who attend have a wonderful evening!

Sunday 20th August 2023: "No words can be said to thank the people who cared for Sophie in her final days. It goes without saying how valued the staff of the Hospice are. "

Today was chosen as this is the date the company was founded in 1991 and they wanted to celebrate their anniversary with us, which they have kindly done for the past four years.

Saturday 5th August 2023: "Gerry is a huge miss to all who knew him and he is missed and loved every day. We are forever thankful that he was so well looked after in his last few days by such caring and compassionate staff."

Friday 21st July 2023: "Josephine worked as a volunteer receptionist at the Hospice once a week from about 2006, until she moved to Norwich in 2018. She was very enthusiastic about the work of St Cuthbert’s Hospice and found her involvement there rewarding and fulfilling."

Wednesday 28th June 2023: "A year on and we are proud to raise money to support St Cuthbert’s hospice where Emma received such fantastic care and to pay for a day’s care in her memory."

Tuesday 11th April 2023 “John was a regular visitor of the In-Patient Unit for several years until the day he sadly passed. When he was fit and well enough to be back home, he enjoyed his weekly visits to the Hospice’s Living Well Centre, joining in with craft days and gardening."

Saturday 8th April 2023 “My husband, Tom Flowers spent the last three and a half weeks of his life being cared for by the staff at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. He and I could not have wished for better people to look after him. I cannot praise the staff highly enough."

Sunday 2nd April 2023. "As part of his 80th birthday celebrations and in recognition of monies raised for St. Cuthberts from the sledges he’s made, Malcolm Rolling's family and friends have arranged a Pay for the Day’, on his birthday."

Tuesday 7th March 2023. “David was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a fun loving & proud Dad and Husband with a great sense of humour, always up for a laugh, and had a kind word for everyone. He truly was one in a million”

Monday 6th March 2023: "Sandra spent a short but peaceful time at St Cuthbert's Hospice and for that, her family and friends are eternally grateful."

Monday 27th February "We decided to donate to St Cuthbert's as thanks for the superb care Mum received in her final days. No restrictions were put on our visiting hours and the staff were always very helpful and extremely kind. My sister was even able to spend several nights - and days - with her."

Sunday 26th February 2023. "David was a special type of person; he got along with everyone he met, would be the first to offer a helping hand, and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him."

Thursday 19th January 2023. "Linda would always say that she loved being at the Hospice, as she felt like a 'normal' person and not someone with cancer. Our family cannot thank all the staff and volunteers for making Linda feel human again in her last months of life."

Tuesday 17th January 2023. "After having multiple admissions to hospital, mum really needed a place where she could relax and sleep without being disturbed and that was exactly what St Cuthbert's provided. St Cuthbert's provided a quiet, calming and relaxing environment for mum and she loved the Reiki sessions, massages and Jacuzzi baths that she received."

Sunday 1st January 2023. “It is with great pleasure that we sponsor today’s Pay for a Day on the 1st January at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Reflecting on another tough year, St Cuthbert’s Hospice has kept its doors open and have been providing care throughout it all."

Friday 16th December 2022. "I can’t speak highly enough of all the staff we encountered at St Cuthbert’s, and the Living Well Centre certainly helped Reuben to do just that. We all miss him terribly, but will hold on to the myriad of happy memories we all share of him."

Friday 9th December 2022. ''She couldn't have been happier at the Hospice. The care the staff provided was second to none and with the help of the Hospice and their amazing team, she got to say goodbye the way she wanted, with her family surrounding her.''

Tuesday 29th November 2022. “Forever beautiful in the Arms of the Angels”

Friday 25th November 2022. "The Hospice and their amazing staff were there when we needed them the most. Mum was fortunate to spend her last 19 days at St Cuthbert’s, allowing us to be a family at her bedside and not carers as we had been."

At 43 years old, Dawn was living her best life. She had moved into a new home with her fiancé David and daughter Ruby in September 2021, their first home together. She announced her engagement to David in November 2021. The future looked bright. Dawn told us that she and David wouldn’t be getting married for some years yet, they were not going to rush things.

Monday 12th September 2022 "Alison Atyeo died on 28th May 2020 after a short illness. During the latter stages of her life she received tremendous support and care from the staff at St Cuthbert's Hospice."

Friday 12th August 2022. Par Petroleum have chosen to cover the clinical costs for our care today. This date was chosen as it is the date the company was founded in 1991 and they wanted to celebrate their anniversary with us, which they have kindly done for the past three years.

Friday 5th August 2022. “Gerry was not only my father-in-law but one of my mates as well. Gerry was married to Sandra for 52 years. He was a loving dad, grandad, great grandad and a friend to many. Family and friends were everything to Gerry. He was a true gent and loved and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him."

Tuesday 26th July 2022. All day today, for twenty-four whole hours, our Living Well Centre costs have been donated in loving memory of Steve Tregoning with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. Today was chosen to mark what would have been Steve and Laura's 42nd Wedding Anniversary.

"Nathan, and our cousin Helen, took part in the 1-mile ‘Run Like A Legend’ race at Durham City Run Festival. Nathan chose to run his race for St Cuthbert’s to ‘repay them for their kindness’ in looking after his Dad. He completed the race in 10m 39sec. Thanks to our generous family, friends, and even people we have never met before, he raised over £1,600 for the Hospice."

Wednesday 29th June 2022. "During his illness, Andy regularly visited the Living Well Centre at St Cuthbert’s for pain management, counselling and reiki sessions. I know Andy would be delighted that, thanks to the generous donations from family and friends, his 50th birthday is being marked by the running costs of the Living Well Centre being paid in his name."

Monday 9th May 2022. "We all love and miss Dad every single day, he is always and will forever be in our thoughts and smiles. Today would be his 70th Birthday. We will always be grateful to the St Cuthbert's Team for the care they gave Dad and the insurmountable support given to our family. Thank you for being so kind.”

Friday 22nd April 2022. "Ray was a much-loved Husband, Dad, Grandad and Great Grandad – he had a brilliant sense of humour, the cheekiest grin and gave the best bear hugs. We wanted to Pay for a Day of care in memory of Grandad today, as we will be forever grateful for the care that St Cuthbert’s gave him during his time there."

It means that on this day we can remember my mum in a special way and know that we are helping another family like mine receive the same fantastic care we did.”

Saturday 26th February 2022. “David was a special type of person; he got along with everyone he met, would be the first to offer a helping hand and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Today would have been his 62nd birthday, which no doubt would be spent laughing with friends and family over a pint.”

Tuesday 15th February 2022. All day today, for twenty-four whole hours, our full clinical running costs have been donated in loving memory of Colin Rynn with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. The sum of £5,000 has kindly been donated by Cheviot Holdings (Amble) ltd and today was chosen to mark Colin’s birthday.

7th February 2022. "Dad supported us all and enjoyed special time with his many grandchildren (he loved Shrek). He always had a cheeky smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, was selfless, loved mum’s cooking, harvest time and always whistled to work, enjoying life to the full."

24th January 2022. "Jason was a loving, caring and supportive family man and friend. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. Eight years on from his death Jason still makes us smile and as we reminisce about our adventures together.”

17th January 2022. "Today would have been mum's 55th birthday. We all miss her & think about her a lot. And as a family, we think it fitting that some of the money we raised in her memory is to be spent to pay for today's care at St Cuthbert's.”

31st December 2021 “Joyce spent her final few days at the Hospice back in July 2016 after a short battle with cancer. As a family, we will always be grateful for the care and compassion shown at St Cuthbert's."

Christmas Eve 2021 “We all love and miss Mum every single day, she is always and will forever be in our thoughts but especially on Christmas Eve.”

Wednesday 15th December. "It’s an honour to be able to pay for a day, a year to the day our Dad, Granda and Great Granda. Alan Mason lost his life to Covid. Our beautiful Mam, Margaret Mason lost her life nine days later on Christmas Eve."

On 29th June 2021, for twenty four whole hours, our full clinical running costs have been donated in loving memory of Andy Rennison with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. We are extremely grateful for this special donation and the beautiful words shared by his wife Karen.  

On 9th May 2021, for twenty four whole hours, our Living Well Centre costs have been donated in loving memory of Denis Marwood with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. We are extremely grateful for this special donation. 

On 31st March 2021, for twenty four whole hours, our In-Patient Unit costs were donated in loving memory of Jan Hopper with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. We are extremely grateful for this special donation and to Jan’s wife for kindly sharing these words with us.

On 11th March 2021, for twenty-four whole hours, our In-Patient Unit running costs have been donated in loving memory of Catherine Groves with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. 

On 8th January 2021 our full clinical running costs were donated by the ‘Boxing Day Dippers’ in loving memory of Sophie Louise Ramshaw on what would have been her 30th Birthday.
