St Cuthbert’s Hospice is proud to once again be part of This is Hospice Care, a national campaign led by Hospice UK and supported by 127 hospices across the UK.
The campaign highlights the vital role hospices play in our communities and the importance of gifts in Wills in helping protect hospice care for future generations.
Data reveals that gifts in Wills fund the equivalent of 400,000 nights of hospice care every year across the UK. As demand for palliative and end of life care continues to grow, these gifts help hospices provide expert care, comfort and support whenever and wherever it is needed.
The inspiration behind the advert
You may have seen the TV advert that’s part of the campaign. One of its most memorable scenes, showing a man attending a hospice for physiotherapy before leaving on his motorbike, was inspired by the story of Mark Stanger, who received care and support from St Cuthbert’s Hospice in 2019.
Mark was just 32 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. During the months he was supported by the Hospice, he was able to spend precious time with his family, ride his motorbike and create lasting memories with his wife Emma and their children.
The care Mark and his family received was only possible thanks to the generosity of supporters, including those who choose to leave a gift in their Will.
A legacy of care
One such legacy supporter is Jan Walters, whose father received respite care at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Having experienced first-hand the difference hospice care makes, Jan has chosen to leave a gift in her Will to help ensure future families receive the same support.
