We really couldn’t do what we do, without our volunteers 💚

It was lovely to pop over to the greenhouse last week to say hello to some of our gardening volunteers. We caught them during their tea break to see their new gardening picnic bench in action – the perfect place for a brew and a chat!☕

We’d like to say thank you to volunteer John Colson for making the kind donation to enable us to buy the new bench, in memory of his wife June. June received care on our In-Patient Unit 11 years ago. John has now been volunteering with us, keeping our gardens looking so lovely, for over 10 years🌻

“I always take part in the Light Up A Life Remembrance Campaign each Christmas to remember June and enjoy having some quiet time sitting on the In-Patient Unit terrace looking out into the gardens to mark the anniversary of her passing each May.

June and I were married for 53 years and went on lots of amazing holidays and adventures together. We met when I was doing my apprenticeship and courted for 6 years. A favourite holiday was going to Antarctica together and another was when we went to Churchill in Canada and saw Polar Bears and the Northern Lights. I wanted to do something to mark 10 years since she died, and knew that this picnic bench would be warmly welcomed by the whole team.”
