Help to Pay for Christmas Day

This Christmas, just like all the Christmases before, will be a very special day for all who spend it with us at St Cuthbert’s Hospice. Decorations will be hung, trees will be trimmed, presents will be exchanged, crackers will be pulled, and our nurses will do all of the little things they usually do to make sure it is a day filled with treasured memories.

Many families are heartbreakingly aware that this will be the last Christmas that they share with their loved ones. We are determined to do all we can to make this Christmas memorable and full of love. To do this, we need your help.

Our nurses love playing Santa and delivering a Christmas stocking to patients staying with us at Christmas. Your donation could help us make Christmas morning memorable.

Every Christmas we serve dinner with all the trimmings, crackers and pudding. Not just to our patients, but their families too. So their last Christmas can be stress-free and memorable for all the right reasons. Your donation could help us make sure the focus is on family.

It costs £2,400 per day to provide the special care that we do at the Hospice. Please donate what you can to help pay for Christmas Day.

Our Housekeeper Val sees patients every day in her vital role keeping each private bedroom in the Hospice looking it’s best and as comfy as can be.

Val shared a Christmas memory with us:

“I don’t know how to fully explain why, but it is just an absolute pleasure to be here at this beautiful place on Christmas Day. My shift will see me working until around 2 or 3pm and in that time I will have said a Merry Christmas to all of the patients with us while I clean their rooms for them. Many will have family spend the day with them, which is always so nice to see. The staff play Santa and give out little presents to the patients and in the past we’ve had small gatherings in the patient lounge where we bring everyone together if they’d like to. Though tinged with sadness, it’s always a happy day. Making memories and treasured moments. It really is just a great pleasure to be here and be part of that with the lovely team who I work Christmas Day with.”
