“Dawn Marie Bailey….. Two years on. It still seems impossible to believe that two whole years have passed by without Dawn. Each of us is coping with our grief in our own way. Dawn was such a big, bubbly character, full of life, always smiling, always wearing bright clothing, and a friend to so many people.

To us, her beloved family, Dawn was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a fiancee. We were all so very proud of the strong, confident, funny woman that she had become. She overcame so many obstacles, and will always be remembered with love and pride. Dawn’s daughter, Ruby, is definitely a ‘Mini Me’, and is developing the same sense of humour and wit as her mam, as well as looking very much like her.

Ray, Dawn’s dad, wanted to share a few memories of Dawn. Firstly, he was always amazed by her ability to recall so many facts and figures quickly, for example: dates, names, quotes and lyrics, then incorporate these into an immediate, whimsical response. Secondly, how she always appreciated his ability to fix anything easily. As a teenager she nicknamed him ‘Ted Glenn’, from the popular TV children’s programme, Postman Pat. She would often say ‘I need Ted Glen to come and fix…’. He recalls how her car broke down in the middle of the street one day, so she rang him in a panic. True to form, he was there within minutes, solving the problem. His biggest regret is that he was unable to fix her.

Dawn’s passions for singing and dancing continue to be celebrated. This ‘Pay for a Day’ has been funded by a memorial concert, named ‘Keeeeep Rocking for St Cuthbert’s Hospice’, which was held close to Dawn’s first anniversary in February 2023. Dawn had been a member of Rock Choir for ten years and her mother, Maria, decided to join the choir and found great comfort in being welcomed into the Rock Choir family. A Rock Choir concert seemed like a perfect way to remember Dawn and to raise funds for the Hospice, who cared for Dawn and the family during her final week. Dawn passed away in St Cuthbert’s on 28th February 2022. The concert was so successful, that a second one has just been held. This will be an annual event, always taking place on the Sunday nearest to Dawn’s anniversary.”

All day today, for twenty four whole hours, our full clinical running costs have been donated in memory of Dawn Marie Bailey with a ‘Pay for a Day’ donation. We are extremely grateful for this special donation in Dawn’s memory.
