A 43-strong team of fun loving, fundraising friends have pledged to put their best foot forward by taking part in St Cuthbert’s Hospice Midnight Walk.

The ladies of the Lambton Arms, headed by landlady Kathryn Allot, hope to raise thousands of pounds in the annual event, which starts from 10pm at St Leonard’s Playing Fields in the city, on June 21st.

Kathryn said: “I think an awful of people know the good work that St Cuthbert’s Hospice does and they appreciate it that it’s local. That’s why they want to get involved. They know they or people in their families may need it one day.”

Hundreds of local women have already signed up for the event, which loops either once or twice around Aykley Heads in Durham, depending on whether they do the 5k or 10k walk. Car parking is at North Car Park, at County Hall. Entertainment will be provided by singer Richard Morrell, a fire artist, Lisa Shaw from Heart radio and the Heart Angels. There will also be moving testimonials from people connected with the hospice and just before the walk, Mandy Fenwick will lead the walkers in a zumba warm-up.

Kathryn said: “We do this event year after year. The atmosphere is unbelievable. All forty of us will turn up on a bus from the pub as a job-lot but then we meet everyone else on the walk and everybody is in such an amazing mood.

“I don’t know what it is – the dark, the lights, the fact we’re all women doing something for a good cause. It’s magical.  Sometimes, when all you can see is the lights, it’s like seeing a Chinese dragon in the dark. It’s an unforgettable experience.”

Lily Axworthy, events organiser at St Cuthbert’s Hospice, said: “The Lambton Arms team is amazing and shows what the Midnight Walk is all about – the youngest team member is 13 and the oldest 75. They feel a real affinity with St Cuthbert’s and we know they’re going to have a good time again by raising money to help us do what we do.”

She added that anyone could register for the Midnight Walk at http://www.stcuthbertshospice.com/ or contact her direct at the Hospice on 0191 384 1170.
