WILLS, power of attorney and funerals will be among the topics discussed when our Everything in Place workshops return this summer.

We are delivering the free sessions in Spennymoor and Chester-le-Street to encourage people to plan ahead for greater peace of mind.

The course covers important end of life topics and comprises of six sessions, namely:

Session one: Where there’s a will there’s a way!

Here we discuss the importance of having a will, how to choose an executor and laws on inheritance

Session two: Who would you trust?

In this session we explain lasting powers of attorney and look at the types of decisions that can be made and the process of getting documents registered.

Session three: The care conundrum

This covers the importance of understanding and anticipating future care needs, including available options, care plans and refusing treatment

Session four: Lifting the lid on funerals

Here we look at funeral planning, the increase in funeral poverty and the importance of sharing your wishes with family

Session five: Your heart and soul

In this session we discuss the topics of organ donation and donating your body to medical science. We also look at ways to take care of yourself when you are not well.

Session six: Compassionate Communities

In the final session, we discuss how to have challenging conversations and how to support each other at difficult times.

Louise Johnson, Community Liaison Officer at the Hospice, said: “Please come along and find out about the importance of getting your paperwork in order while you still have full mental capacity, which can so easily be lost by illness or accident.

“We understand this is not easy to think about, but we can support you to get ‘Everything in Place’ and get on living your life to the full.”

The workshops will be held at Chester-le-Street Library in Station Road from 1pm to 3pm on Friday May 27, June 24, July 29, August 26, September 30 and October 28.

Sessions will also be held at St Paul’s Centre in St Paul’s Gardens, Spennymoor, from 1pm to 3pm on Tuesday, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 6, October 4 and November 1.
